Staff favor is a tool used by staff to deal with minor offences or offences not covered in the ToS; it is also used to reward players for good behaviour (eg. helping staff or other players). The default setting for staff favor is 0; it goes down for bad behaviour and up for good behaviour. The effects of favor are reduced over time; it reverts back to 0 by .5 per day.
The effects of favor are as below (the following chart can also be found by clicking on the favor bar on any player profile):

Your character design temporarily receives a coloured aura when you are favored by a Staff member. Depending on what gang you are in, determines which colour it is. White = Rogue, Blue = The Chapter, Red = Dark Flame, Yellow = Blade of Dawn and finally Green = Outcasts.
Your character design gets temporarily replaced by a frog when you are disfavored. Disfavoring is sometimes referred to as 'frogging'. With the spectral Items you get turned into a purple frog! You can only get a spectral item at special occasions.
Before Update 1.7.00 If somebody got favored/disfavored or even banned, a System message appears on Side Chat, like the one below.

Note: One of the most important things to remember about favor: "If you do things expecting staff favors you will not get one." - Zorg
Not only is asking for a positive favor highly frowned upon, players in the past asking for favor have, in some cases, been met with bans.
