The NEW Wastelands Soap Opera

Written and Produced by: Nitrous.

The NEW Wasteland Soap Opera was created because Nitrous was getting annoyed off and tired of writing the previous one.

The Beginning

“Lord Sythe, I must ask you to confirm.” Desmond Trench gravely spoke. “Glad to see our security is efficient.” Lord Sythe replies as he slips his hand under the scanner. The scanner beeps twice and the gates open. “Mr. Trench, keep up the fine work you are doing.” Lord Sythe continues down the hall lead by Desmond and followed by his board members.

“Lord Sythe, the experimentations are going excellent, and we are almost finished developing the new Chaos Armor for those wastelands warriors.” Lord Sythes personal secretary says. “They have also developed a few new weapons like the three section staff and the grenade launcher.”

“Very good, have you tested the new armor on our test subjects?” Lord Sythe replies “We are going to see that now, my Lord.” The secretary hands him a picture of the Chaos Armor and some of the new weapons.

“Very nice, I hope that it was worth the money.” Lord Sythe replies. Desmond Trench swipes his key card at the testing room and the doors open.

“Lord Sythe, you are going to have to go through standard decontamination procedure.” Desmond Trench says.

“Mr. Trench, these procedures are nonsensical for Lord Sythe to go through.” A board member shouts.

“Quiet down Mr. Rivers. It is standard procedure, and we all must go through decontamination. I must say Mr. Trench you are very thorough.” Lord Sythe removes his watch, sunglasses and wallet then steps into the decontamination chamber.

“I follow every procedure to the exact word.” Desmond Trench replies. The board members follow suit and meet with Lord Sythe in a white room.

“And that’s how I like my business to run. Mr. Trench, I would like to talk with you once I am finished with this testing. When I come out you will accompany me to a dinner party.” Lord Sythe picks up his sunglasses, wallet and watch. Desmond Trench bows and leads them to the testing room.

“Much obliged, my Lord.” Desmond Trench holds the door open for Lord Sythe and his board members to enter the observation room.

“Mr. Chen, you have something to show me?” Lord Sythe booms, his voice carried throughout the halls.

“Oh…yes, Lord Sythe. This is the new Chaos Armor; it will be able to withstand more damage for the higher ranked wasteland warriors.” Mr. Chen replies, he leads Lord Sythe over to the testing room and points at the soldier in there. “We are testing it now, do you wish to stay and watch?”

“That is why I came here you half-wit!” Lord Sythe boomed and Mr. Chen scurries over to the microphone.

“Start testing cycle, begin in 5 minutes.” The soldier wearing the Chaos Armor stands ready. The gun at the other end of the room points at him. “Fire one round!” The gun goes off and hits the Chaos Armor; the bullet deflects off the armor and hits the wall.

“I like what I see.”

We must test it against more fire power.” Mr. Chen fumbles with the controls and a sniper rifle loaded with armor piercing rounds replaces the small handgun. “Ready?” The soldier nods. “Fire one round!” The gun goes off and the bullet deflects off the armor again.

“Impressive.”

“We have one more test, Lord Sythe.” Mr. Chen fumbles with the controls again and a Rail Gun replaces the sniper rifle. “Ready?” The soldier paused for a minute, but reluctantly nodded. “Good, fire until clip is empty!” The Rail Gun fires and fires until the clip’s finished. When the Rail Gun stopped the soldier was standing there, but not for long. The soldier dropped to the ground and the medics rushed in, he was dead before he hit the ground.

“Mr. Chen, I am disappointed that your armor did not stand up against the Rail Gun.” Lord Sythe speaks gravely.

“Lord Sythe, please give me a little more time, I can fix it.” Mr. Chen begs.

“Fix it! Ha, keep it how it is! So what if it can’t stand up against a Rail Gun. Not our problem.” Lord Sythe replies

“But my Lord, people will die.

“Does it look like I care if people will die?”

“Sir you should really reconsider.” Mr. Brooks pipes up.

“This is a corporation not a hospital!” Lord Sythe booms. “Full scale production of these new weapons and armor will begin immediately and ship them to the warfare shops of each gang.”

“Of course sir.” Mr. Brooks reluctantly replies. Lord Sythe turns and exits the observation room. Desmond Trench escorted him back to the limousine.

“Mr. Trench, please get in.” Lord Sythe says.

“My Lord, I’m on duty.” Desmond replies.

“Rivers!” Mr. Rivers comes running to the limousine. “Mr. Rivers inform management that Desmond Trench will be joining me to a dinner party and is excused from work and will receive full pay for his excellent service.”

“I will inform them, my Lord.” Mr. Rivers runs back to the building.

“So Mr. Trench, how long have you worked for X-Corp?” Lord Sythe asks.

“9 years, my Lord.” Desmond shakes hands with Lord Sythe.

“I have a proposition for you Mr. Trench. Are you interested to hear it? Or are you happy with your life as is?”

“I’d be interested to hear it as long as I have the chance to say no afterwards.”

“Smart man” Lord Sythe pours himself a glass of scotch. “The proposition I have is a guard position inside the wastelands.”

“Is that not reserved for the scum of the four gangs?”

“Ah, but this is not an ordinary job Mr. Trench.” Lord Sythe takes a drink of his scotch.

“You won’t be defending territory; you will be defending a facility belonging to Sir Zerg.”

“The head of the Syndicate Council?”

“Yes, he and the Council have asked X-Corp for research money and highly trained guards.”

“May I ask what I am guarding?”

“One of the Council members newest breakthroughs, you’ve met him before, Sir Nitrovski.”

“Nitrovski, yes we were college friends.”

“Sir Nitrovski, Master Tsu and Sir Basecna have been developing wasteland vehicles and new structures for the gangs.” Lord Sythe pours another glass of scotch and hands it to Desmond. “Mr. Trench this job will pay well, fifty thousand pounds a month.”

“Lord Sythe, how will I be protected from the radiation?”

“Oh you won’t be guarding the outside the facility, you will be the head of security.”

“I have one last question then.”

“Ask away.”

“When can I start?” Desmond grins. Lord Sythe laughs and pulls out his phone.

“Mr. Rivers, inform the office that Desmond Trench is being moved to our facility out in the northwest quadrant of the wastelands and will be placed as head of security. Then make haste to payroll and inform them starting next week Desmond Trench will be paid fifty thousand pounds at the close of each month.” There is a long pause as Mr. Rivers confirms what he has been told. “Thank you Mr. Rivers.” Lord Sythe hangs up and turns his attention to Desmond again. “Mr. Trench, anything you get is on me. Please come.” Lord Sythe exits the limousine and heads toward the restaurant.

Lord Sythe sits himself at the table and Desmond takes the seat next to him.

“Lord Sythe who is your guest?” Mr. Fargo points to Desmond.

“Forgive me. This is my new head of security, Desmond Trench.” Lord Sythe replies. The men at the table look at Desmond.

“Ah, for the wasteland facility, very nice to meet you.” Mr. Fargo walks over to Desmond and shakes his hand. The other dinner party members consisted of Sir Zerg, Sir Nitrovski and Sir Basecna; three of the active Syndicate Council members.

Desmond Trench felt something, a feeling of doubt, not sure whether it was a good idea to take this job. He sits here among rich and noble men, yet he is neither rich nor noble. As Desmond Trench sat there at the table he thought about his new job. What wonders he would see in the wastelands, Desmond wasn’t sure what the future held for him.

X-Corp controlled everything dealing with weapons and armor in the Hive cities, which towered over the wasteland that used to be called earth. They were evil, corrupt and nonsensical; all they wanted to see was profit. Lord Sythe had offered Desmond a job that would change his life. In the Hive cities you were either with a gang, on the streets or working for X-Corp. There’s no way out of this life, earth lay in ruins as gangs fight for territory down there. Your mind is under the control of the Syndicate Council and X-Corp, they can change what you think and do. They can play mind games and destroy a man from the inside out.
