Lowbie Story Part 2

With a resonating clang Makk landed on the metal grating in a crouching position, hitting his “dead” and bleeding arm off the floor causing him to grimace at the pain he will eventually feel.

Looking about and seeing no one, he begins to move forward, each step another clang echoing through the darkness.

“ I wish I saved for that lesson to travel unseen” he whispered to no-one “would be damned useful now”

he walked on turning corners where needed following a map in his mind while, being careful not to touch the sponge like, almost living walls, and to not fall into the drains, with that never ceasing current of filth,

“lemme see” he though to himself “ take a left here, over the pool of glowing, bubbling goop, walk on until u see a rounded tunnel to your right…”

he jumped over a hole in the grating and turning into the tunnel, only to see the screaming form of a flaming hobo run past the other end.

He stands there for a few seconds, until he starts chuckling. “You don’t see that everyday.”

He felt his belt and thumbed the power button for his radio. “hey, hey guys! you’ll never guess what I just saw!” “I just saw a flaming…” Thwack this time the bolt destroyed his radio.

Makk spun around to catch a flash of green taking cover behind the nearest corner no doubt reloading their crossbow.

He turned and ran down the tunnel as fast as he could, to be caught in here would mean certain death. “And another six hours, if not longer to find me.”

… to be continued.

He ran jumping straight onto the ladder as two more bolts emerged from the darkness one missing him, the other tearing a ragged hole in his sleeve.

He launched himself up the rungs two at a time until he reached the top hitting the release switch. The hatch shuddered and cracked, but slowly began to open, too slowly though as he heard the steps of his pursuer echo down the tunnel.

As soon as there was a gap he tried to pull himself through but getting caught as it jams halfway. He pulled with all his strength, cursing himself, his arm and Zorg as he slowly removed himself from the hatch.

He rolled to the side; closely followed by another two bolts that shot off into the distance.

He slammed his hand down onto the locking mechanism shutting away his pursuer in the sewer.

He lay there, catching his breathe for a minute as he heard a Thunk from the sewer hatch, “probably another” bolt he thought sadly.

“just another day of people killing people” he said to no-one.

Sighing he began to stand and look around.

Before him lay some of the un-repaired buildings that are usually found around the hives mid-low areas. One of these buildings was fortunately one of the few hospitals in the area.

He slowly pushed himself over to the hospital, joining the crowd and noise inside, he walked up to one of the doctors holding a chart and directing people to different wards and dismissing people who are just suffering from colds.

The doctor was pointing down the corridor, directing the nurses to wheel the screaming man to surgery.

As he looked back and caught site of Makk’s state, his expression soured. “Welcome, im doctor Jones, we can fix your injuries and heal you.” He looked at Makk a hint of sadness washing over him. “As long as you have the credits to pay though.” He almost sighed.
