Once you reach avatar you'll gain access to 'focus'.
Focus is used for avatar abilities such as phase and summoning, the amount it uses depends on the ability and it's level.
For example phase costs 5 focus per square in the wastelands at level one, but once it's maxed (level 5) it only costs 1 focus point per square.
