The Ability System was a system originally designed by Zorg to replace the old avatar skill system while giving older players a slight edge over newer players. It is only available to players who are at least level 20 or higher.

Abilities are first purchased from the "Hall Of Knowledge", located in Sector 2 (Some Abilities are obtained through Quests such as Personal Shield and Void Swap). Newly acquired abilities can be found under the Abilities tab located in Information, and abilities are trained at a rate of +5 per hour unless Speed Reading is known and then they are trained at +10 per hour.

Some abilities such as phasing and summon use focus. The focus meter can be found under the HP bar on the left of the page. Focus regenerates at a rate of +5 every minute.

Learning Rate

The speed that a player gains abilities is based on their Learning Rate. This number can be found in the Character -> Information -> Character page.

There are several factors that can affect a players Learning Rate. The first of which, is how many Ability Points you currently have.

From 0 to 100,000, you get 30 base points.
From 100,001 to 200,000, you get 25 base points.
From 200,001 to 300,000, you get 20 base points.
From 300,001 to 400,000, you get 15 base points.
From 400,001 to 500,000, you get 10 base points.
From 500,001 onward, you get 5 base points.

In addition to this, by Training the Speed Reading Ability - you can increase your base Learning Rate by up to 5 (+1 per level of the ability), another 2 from Learning Boost, and another +2 if your account has a +4 Staff Favor.

In theory, a player that has all the bonuses active can attain a maximum of +39 Learning Rate with all conditions met.
